Are Anxiety Disorders Normal In Kids?

There are many kinds of anxiety disorder known to man. To name some, we have the Generalized Anxiety Disorder or what other calls as GAD, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder and many more. Anxiety disorder is the number health problem that plagues Americans. In fact, around 25% of American adults are affected with this problem. The number of children affected by it is still unknown.

Although we could not yet number how many children are affected by anxiety disorder but it is certain that this problem can also be found in them. Studies have shown that a large number of adult patients who are suffering from anxiety disorder have manifested anxiety disorder when they were young.

If you are a parent, it is imperative to know and remember that anxiety disorder in children is not normal. People may tell you the opposite saying that they will eventually get rid of it as they grow but the truth is that anxiety disorder children faces if left untreated will cause complication when they grow up. It will even be more difficult to treat once they had had for quite some time.

One illustration of a person that has anxiety disorder during her childhood and had developed into obsessive compulsive disorder is the uncontrollable peeling of her hair. She is now wearing a wig to cover the bald spots in her head caused by this disorder where she peels one strand of her hair after the other. Whenever she feels stress in her school due to examination or feels fear for the results, she would peel her hair one at a time that a spot on her head would literally go bald.

This story is just one of the many who can put any parent in alert, watching out any manifestation of anxiety disorder among their children. So if you are a parent and you want to safeguard the welfare of your children from anxiety disorders, then better watch out for these symptoms: worry, fear, apprehension, and distress.

The symptoms are the tricky part. Most often, they are an everyday occurrences especially for children. We know that kids often worry. They worry about their pet being left at the vet, or their parent going away for a business trip. They also fear. Fear of the dark or fear of being left alone. However, you can know if it is not normal anymore if they occur too often.

This anxiety disorder children face will be a big concern for the whole family if it is not treated. First off, the concentration and learning of the child will be affected. We know how important these two are for children and we cannot afford to let it go loose. Their decision making and thinking will also be affected. Of course, there are many more that will be affected if anxiety disorders are not addressed.

Do not despair if you think that your child have anxiety disorder. Go seek a professional help immediately. It will give you comfort to know that anxiety disorders are treatable and you child can get away from its grip even before they grow as adults.
